In this newsletter:

Looks like the cold weather is behind us, although up here in the Northeast it has been known to snow into May,
so I learn never to count it out. Wraps are coming off, boats are going in, the yards are in full swing. Great to see
another season under way. I actually saw a guy (other than the frostbiters) under sail just this week. Made me smile.

So, some interesting items I found recently:

FISHING BLOOPERS

Is it right to laugh at others’ misfortune? In this case it is. Enjoy.

LNG IN RI/MASS WATERS

I don’t usually takes sides, but I just cannot see any benefit to YOU, the boater, so in this case I am.
Even if you are in favor of having a LNG Terminal in the area, you should at least read what the other side has to say:

GOOGLE EARTH SHOWCASE

If you’ve seen Google Earth, this trip into our undersea world is just as fascinating. As the technology improves, it’s just a little wild to imagine how detailed this will become.

WAVE CRASHES INTO SHIP AND KILLS 2

We shouldn’t need reminders that our waters can be treacherous, and this recent story is just another example of how we can be caught unaware at times.

On a personal note, the following story happened back in April 1966 (OK, I’m dating myself). The Michelangelo took on a wave that smashed portholes 82′ high and 3 people lost their lives. I was aboard an 88′ ketch that passed her in the early morning, just a couple of hours before the wave struck. Winds were reported to be in excess of 100 mph. My first trip to sea.

BOAT OF THE MONTH

HUNTER 356

This like new 2002 Hunter 356 is located in the Rhode Island Southern CT area. This particular Hunter 356 has been professionally maintained by the yard and by the owner who is extremely knowledgeable in all things mechanical and makes sure that everything on Surprise is kept like new.
She is in PRISTINE condition.

With a new family, this boat owner has not spent much time under sail, preferring instead to enjoy weekends dockside as his family becomes acclimated to the boating life. Consequently the sails are in amazingly great shape. With both convenient main and jib furling, Surprise sails will last for many more years to come.

Seasonal slip and 2010 winter storage is paid for in advance and can be available to the right buyer.

To arrange to see this boat contact Larry Rutter, Robert Christopher Yachts – 401-338-3554
